Overview
A short Bhutan journey through the best sights of the Paro valley, the capital Thimphu, Punakha and Wangdue Phodrang, crossing the scenic Dochula pass through green hills dotted with monasteries. Highlights include Paro Rinpung Dzong with its exceptional woodwork, Thimphu's dzongs and markets, Punakha Dzong, a 20-minute walk across rice fields to the fertility temple of Chimi Lhakhang, and the hike to Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest.
Day by day
Visit the National Museum (Ta Dzong) and Paro Rinpung Dzong (1645), with its exceptional woodwork. Overnight in Thimphu.

Request to bookThimphu, the only world capital without traffic lights. Visit the Memorial Chorten built for the third King, the National Library, the Painting School for traditional thangka art, the Handicrafts Emporium and the weekend market, then Semtokha Dzong (1629), Tashichho Dzong and Pangri Zampa Monastery.
Stop at the Dochula for Himalayan views and visit Punakha Dzong. Overnight in Wangdue.
A 20-minute walk across rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang (1499), then back over the Dochula to Paro.
Hike to the viewpoint and on to Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest, Bhutan's most famous monastery, clinging to a cliff 900 m above the Paro valley where Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown on the back of a tigress. Allow 4-6 hours round trip.
Transfer to the airport.
