Overview
This renowned route in the Solu-Khumbu combines all the mountain scenery you can take with a close look at Sherpa life. From Gokyo Ri (5357 m) you look over the sparkling turquoise Gokyo Lakes and the Ngozumpa, Nepal's largest glacier, to Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. The trek follows the quieter Dudh Koshi valley via Phortse Thanga and Machhermo to Gokyo, crosses the Cho La (5367 m) to Dzongla and Lobuche, and then reaches Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar (5545 m) for the classic Everest panorama. The region is home to Sherpa communities with Buddhist monasteries and to rare wildlife including musk deer, Himalayan tahr and snow leopard.
