Overview
Tsum Valley is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley in northern Gorkha, branching off the Manaslu Circuit. Its name comes from the Tibetan word for vivid, and the valley is rich in ancient art, culture and religion, home to people of Tibetan origin who speak their own dialect. The valley rises from 1905 m at Lokpa to more than 5000 m near the Tibetan border, surrounded by Boudha Himal, Ganesh Himal and Shringi Himal. The trek follows the Budhi Gandaki gorge from Arughat to Philim, then turns into the Tsum Valley past Chumling, Chhokangparo, Rachen Gompa nunnery and Nile to Mu Gompa (3700 m), the largest and most remote monastery in the valley. The return visits Milarepa's Cave at Burgi with views of the Poshyop Glacier. A restricted-area permit is required.
