Overview
A journey through Sikkim's Buddhist heritage, from the great Karma Kagyu seat at Rumtek to the oldest Nyingma monasteries of West Sikkim. In Gangtok you visit Rumtek, Enchey and the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology; in South Sikkim the Ralang Monastery and the Buddha Park at Ravangla. In West Sikkim the route reaches Pemayangtse, Sanga Choeling and the ruins of Rabdentse around Pelling, Tashiding Monastery on its hilltop between two rivers, where the Bumchu festival is held, and Yuksom with Dubdi Monastery and Norbugang, where Sikkim's first Chogyal was crowned. Foreign nationals need a Sikkim Restricted Area Permit (Inner Line Permit), issued online, at the Rangpo or Melli checkposts or on arrival, through the operator.
