Overview
This trek explores the isolated Rolwaling valley, a deep glacial valley between Gaurishankar and the Everest region. Walking from the Tamakoshi and Bhote Koshi gorges via the Sherpa and Tamang village of Simigaon, you enter Rolwaling through rhododendron and bamboo forest to Beding (3690 m), with its old monastery and views of Menlungtse, and on to the summer settlement of Na below the Tsho Rolpa glacial lake. After acclimatization hikes with views of more than fifteen peaks, the route follows Tsho Rolpa and the Trakarding and Drolambau glaciers to the Tashi Lapcha pass (5755 m), one of the most demanding trekking passes in Nepal, then descends into the Khumbu at Thame and finishes via Khumjung, Namche Bazaar and Lukla. This is a fully supported camping trek with Sherpas, cooks and porters, and some sections require rope work on glacier terrain.
