Overview
This trek ventures into the exotic and enthralling hidden valleys of Nar and Phu in northern Manang, a restricted area that only opened to trekkers in 2003. From Besisahar a 4WD drive reaches Koto, from where the trail follows the Phu Khola through deep woods and canyons, past cave shelters and Tibetan chortens, to the medieval stone village of Phu (4080 m). From Phu there is an optional hike towards Himlung Base Camp (4800 m) through glacial valleys, before visiting the monastery at Nar Phedi and the picturesque village of Nar. The route then crosses the Kang La (5240 m) with views of Annapurna II and Gangapurna, dropping to Ngawal and Pisang on the Annapurna Circuit. A restricted-area permit and a registered guide are required.
