Overview
This trek links three distinct regions north of Kathmandu: the Langtang valley, the sacred Gosainkunda lakes, and the Tibetan-influenced Hyolmo and Tamang villages of Helambu. It offers some of the finest landscapes in central Nepal, with views of Langtang Lirung (7246 m), Dorje Lakpa (6966 m), Ganesh Himal, Shishapangma and Manaslu. After exploring Kyanjin Gompa and climbing Tserko Ri, you cross over Thulo Syabru and Shin Gompa to Gosainkunda (4460 m), the holy lake revered by Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims, then cross the Laurebina La (4610 m) into Helambu. The descent passes Ghopte, Melamchi Gaun, the Ama Yangri viewpoint, Tarke Ghyang and Sermathang. Wildlife in Langtang National Park includes Himalayan black bear, red panda and more than 280 bird species.
