Overview
The trek to Kanchenjunga gives the closest view of the world's third-highest mountain, Kanchenjunga (8586 m), in the far east of Nepal. The region ranges from lush lowlands with tea and spice farms to icy summits, with panoramic mountain views, rich rhododendron forests, wildlife and birds, and the traditional life of Limbu, Rai, Sherpa and Tibetan highland communities. This full circuit flies to Suketar near Taplejung and climbs to the Yalung Glacier and South Base Camp for the great southern face of Kanchenjunga, crosses the Sinelapche, Mirgin La, Sinion La and Sele La passes to the Buddhist village of Ghunsa, and continues past Kambachen with views of Jannu to Lhonak and Pangpema, the North Base Camp (5143 m). The route passes glaciers, high lakes and peaks including Kirat Chuli, Talung, Kabru and Pyramid Peak. Good health and fitness are required.
