Overview
An off-the-beaten-path high-altitude trek combining mountain scenery with Bhutan's great cultural sites. The scenery ranges from the picturesque valleys of Paro and Thimphu to close views of Jomolhari (7326 m), Jichu Drake (6989 m), Tserim Kang and Masang Gang. The trek starts below the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong and follows the Paro Chhu through Jigme Dorji National Park, past the ruins of a Tibetan-era fort and yak-herding settlements, to Jangothang, the base camp beneath Jomolhari. After an acclimatization day it crosses the Nyile La to the remote village and dzong of Lingshi, then the Yeli La, before descending through rhododendron, birch and conifer forest beside glacial streams to Dodina near Thimphu.
