Overview
The Guerrilla Trek explores the mid-western Rukum and Rolpa hills, an area that was closed to outsiders during Nepal's decade-long conflict and served as the revolutionary heartland. Now open to visitors, it offers rich flora and fauna, unspoiled natural beauty and a deep cultural heritage, alongside the trails and sites that shaped modern Nepali history. The route links Musikot, Syarpu Lake, Rukumkot and the traditional Kham Magar villages of Mahat, Kankri and Taksera before entering the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve with its pine forests, pastures and snow peaks. Accommodation is in tented camps and cultural homestays. A remote, off-the-beaten-path journey, ideal for travelers interested in culture and recent history.
Day by day
Drive by bus, or fly to Nepalgunj and drive to Khaula, the main gateway to Rukum. Overnight in tented camp or cultural homestay.
