Overview
The shorter classic route to Sandakphu (3636 m), the highest point in West Bengal, along the Singalila Ridge on the India-Nepal border. From Manebhanjan the trail climbs through Chitrey and Tumling, with its view of the Kanchenjunga massif, then follows the ridge through Singalila National Park via Gairibas and Kalipokhri to Sandakphu. At dawn Sandakphu reveals four of the world's five highest peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kanchenjunga, with the Sleeping Buddha formation of the Kanchenjunga range. The descent follows a quieter forest trail via Gurdum and Srikhola to Rimbik. For the longer version via Phalut, see the Sandakphu and Phalut Trek. Trekkers need a licensed guide inside Singalila National Park.
