Overview
The Sandakphu trek, first used in the days of the British Raj, follows the Singalila Ridge along the border between India and Nepal in Singalila National Park, Darjeeling. The region has remarkable biodiversity, with a huge variety of orchids, and sub-alpine forests of rhododendron, magnolia and spruce. Starting at Rimbik, the trail climbs through emerald forests full of birds to Ramam and Molley, where the first views of Everest and Kanchenjunga appear, then reaches Phalut, where West Bengal, Sikkim and Nepal meet. From Sandakphu (3636 m), the highest point in West Bengal and a trekkers' paradise, you see four of the world's five highest peaks: Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu. The descent passes Tonglu to Manebhanjan and returns to Darjeeling.
